2008 Pares Balta Blanc de Pacs
Pares Balta Blanc de Pacs is a delightfully refreshing white wine from the Penedes region in the northeast of Spain, just west of Barcelona. Pares Balta is a family owned winery in the Penedes region with a tradition that goes back to 1790. The vineyards have been certified organic since the 2004 vintage. This Spanish white is a blend of 42% Parellada, 25% Macabeu and 33% Xarel.lo, the typical blend for making a sparkling Cava. According to the importer, Bryce McNamee of rising-star Boutique Wine Collection, the Xarel•lo gives the body, Macabeu the fruit and Parellada the delicate freshness and floral notes characteristic of the highest mountains in the Penedes. Josh Raynolds for Stephen Tanzer rated the 2008 vintage of this wine 89 points. No ratings yet on this new 2009 vintage, but we find the way it drinks on a warm summer night is a true wine gem!

Pares Balta Blanc de Pacs is soft yellow-green in color with medium body. It has an enticing nose of ripe pear and apple with a light floral background. Dry, crisp and bright, this wine has rich flavors of apple, honeydew, peach and mineral notes. It is fruit-forward and nicely balanced, with a clean finish of tropical fruits. The grapes are handpicked and fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then bottled young to retain its bold fruity flavors and freshness. This is an organic wine.

2009 Emperador des Barros Macabeo
Pale yellow. Pungent peach, pear and lemon zest aromas are complemented by a note of white pepper. Pliant, dry citrus and pear skin flavors are refreshingly bitter and focused, with juicy acidity providing lift. Finishes with good clarity and spicy cut. This will make a great summer wine.

2009 Ulacia Cosecha Getariako Txakolina
The Getariako style is the most effervescent style of Txacoli. Ulacia is a veritable explosion of frothy apple and juicy melon flavors. Crisp and refreshing, this is just what a Txacoli should be.

2009 Tarima Monastrell
This is another Jorge Ordonez wine that delivers big time at a value price of under $10. Wine Advocate 87 points: “This is the first vintage of this wine; the 2009 Tarima is 100% Monastrell sourced from 25-35 year old vines and raised in stainless steel with lees stirring. Medium crimson-colored, the nose reveals fragrant blueberries and underbrush. Firm on the palate with plenty of savory fruit, it is meant for drinking over the next 3 years. Great with grilled meats, burgers, pasta, cheese and crackers or pizza. This could also be served without food to folks who love Cabernet and/or Shiraz.could also be served without food to folks who love Cabernet and/or Shiraz.”

2008 Triton
This new blockbuster wine is from winemaker Amy Hopkinson and importer Jorge Ordonez. Made of 100% Tinta de Toro (Also known as Tempranillo). The winery is located in the village of Villanueva de Campean near Zamora in the historic area known as de la Tierra del Vino, The Land of Wine. And also near the appellation of Toro. The estate is being farmed using organic and biodynamic practices, and the old vines for this wine range in age from 45-104 years. Soils are a nice mixture with a lot of sand and river rocks, and sun strata red clay typical for Toro. Triton has also been aged in French oak for 15 months.
Beautiful violet aromas and a wonderful balance. Even though it is big wine there is a certain elegance with nice ripe plums, great spice, some chocolate notes, but also nice smoky and meaty notes on the palate. Not to mentions the wine is half the cost of what it should be. There were only 4200 cases produced and we are rapidly depleting our allocation. It will not last much longer.
