Ellen Taylor's Summer Sipping Selections

August 13, 2010
6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

This Friday from 6pm – 8pm our free wine tasting will be hosted by Ellen Taylor of The Country Vintner. We will be featuring wines from Spain, Italy and even Lebanon! On The Tasting Table Friday 8/13:

La Cana Albarino 2009: From lush, green, Galicia, Spain this collaboration between The Juan Gil Family and importer Jorge Ordonez is a study in grace and finesse. Full of ripe, rich fruit and citrus, this Albarino features lemon-lime, pear and pineapple and white pear on the nose, followed by fleshy white peach and apple, hints of orange and honeysuckle, lively minerality and a kick of white pepper. Serve as an aperitif, with toasted almonds and olives, summer salads, chilled seafood, grilled prawns & lobster!

Barnard Griffin 2009 Rose of Sangiovese: Very food friendly Rose also great for dog-days of Summer sippin’ or evenings out on the patio. Best described in the words of the owner/wine maker, Rob Griffin, “a dry Sangiovese Rose tour de force. Boasts a range of flavors built around racy strawberry and tart orange with hints of melon rind and peach. Impresses because of its perfect balance between rich, concentrated flavors and mouth watering acidity.”

Carchelo Monastrell 2009: Jumilla’s benchmark wine. Having pioneered a fresher and more complex style, Carchelo has become increasingly concentrated in recent vintages. Almost exclusively from old-vine Monastrell with just a dab of organic Syrah: Dark, ripe density is matched by a fresh, long and spicy finish.

Musar Cuvee Rouge 2008: The Musar Cuvée is an organically produced Lebanese wine from the renowned vineyards of Château Musar. Located at an altitude of over 3,000 feet in the Bekaa Valley the vines are sheltered by the surrounding mountains running parallel to the Mediterranean coast. The Musar Cuvée is the second wine of Château Musar – A blend of different grape varieties, mainly: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan which are grown on a gravely soil with a limestone base. The wine comes from the same blending as the Château, with a higher percentage of cinsault, and without aging in oak vats. It makes for lovely drinking, and it goes perfectly with any Mediterranean cuisine.

Saracco Moscato di Asti 2008: A delightful artisanal wine out of Italy’s Piedmont region from the Maestro of Moscato, Paolo Saracco. Fresh lychee, pear, white flower, peaches and honeysuckle lifted by sparkle and touches of candied sugar. Vibrant and refreshing! Great aperitif or drink at end of the meal. Pair with fresh fruit with whipped cream, pound cake or chocolate truffles. Also, wonderful for sipping pool side!
